If I can teach you anything, what do you want to learn most from me?”

I asked this question on Facebook and Twitter, and I got various answers. Some are things that I never thought of:

  1. Managing energy
  2. The spirit to grow
  3. How to commit in writing
  4. How to speak English
  5. Confidence
  6. How to be a good writer
  7. How to be busy but look cool
  8. Business skill
  9. Persistence
  10. Fashion and grace
  11. How to build startup
  12. How to be awesome
  13. Women entrepreneurship. How to start, framework, and mentoring
  14. Startup, web develop and ethos
  15. How to struggle
  16. Networking
  17. Fashion, dress, hijab and make-up

I’m grateful and fascinated with the answers. It’s of course confirming of what my passion and skills are.

So, if you have no idea what’s your passion and skill, you might want to ask this question to your friends, you’ll know instantly what you’re good at and what you love doing

Happy Muslims is not a new concept. Indonesia has more than 200 million Muslims and we’re one of the happiest countries in the world. From my experience, in most Muslim countries, people are very warm and love to joke around. And DANCE.

If you want to sum it up in a 4 minutes video, aimed to show to the whole world, tell me what’s better than this one by British Muslims!

I showed this picture to my 17 years old ‘daughter’ Ana when we met on a rare occassion. I help fund her education and only meet her once in a while.
"What do you think of this picture? I’m going to use this as my twitter avatar," I asked her.
She immediately told me that I should choose other photo. Ana is a shy girl, and it’s not her usual trait to say anything like this. I asked her, “Why do you think so?”
She said, in this picture, I have a big pimple. It’s not good. The only reason she said that, is because she’s suffering from a big pimple herself right now and it make her feel so bad about her face.
I remember myself when I was her age. The insecurity was overwhelming.
So, to show her that she’s beautiful with or without pimple, and people wouldn’t mind her having pimple, I use this photo as my twitter avatar.

I was in a networking event in Singapore. The room was packed with smart people in technology. I manage to chat with a lot of people from around the world. Then I excuse myself to grab a drink.

I walked back to the room, holding a cold coke in my right hand, and stop in the center of the room. Just decided to stand there, sipping my coke, watching people talking in groups.

Tasneem, scream out my name from across the room, “OLLIE! COME here! What are you doing there??”

From her face, I can see how worried she was if I don’t belong in any group. I was walking to her group, just because she made the effort. Otherwise I would just stay there standing alone with myself.

I’m very comfortable being alone that not many people understand it. I’m not standing on the side, I was standing in the center. I’m ok.

Last night I did that again in Jakarta’s event. The room was packed with a lot of important women in social works field. This time, some of them know me, so if I was just standing there, people would have just come to me and talk without I have to make an effort to get someone to talk to.

The networking event outside your circle is always the toughest. But it’s good to see it as a game and social experiment. That way, you won’t feel intimidated.

Thank you.

Life is simple. It’s all about loving self and others. People don’t know how lucky they are and choose to complicate their own life.
